Although a large body of research has been carried
out over several decades examining the clinical
uses of mushrooms to meet serious health challenges
such as cancer, only a few mushroom species such
as Coriolus, Cordyceps, Reishi have passed through
clinical trials and regulatory approval as a drug
in certain countries. Others are still in the
pre-clinical testing stage.
In
Asia, the concept of food and medicine are closely
intertwined. Despite a lack of modern medical
resources, people in many parts of Asia live lives
of equal or better health than their Western counterparts.
While many factors contribute to this, it is clear
that diet and the types of foods consumed in Asia
play an important role.
Ultimately, mushroom products including both raw
mushrooms and mushroom extracts and supplements,
are part of a preventative diet that is important
in maintaining good health. |
