Reishi contain
beta-D-glucanwhich is
believed to be the key to Reishi's immune stimulating
properties linked to beta-glucans receptors found
on neutrophils,
monocytes or macrophages,
NK cells,
and T and B lymphocytes.
Reishi also contain triterpenoids.
These triterpenoids (including ganoderic acid)
promote immune response in the body.
Traditional use
As a royal herb of
ancient China and "mushroom of immortality",
Reishi has been used as
a medicinal mushroom
in China and other Asian countries for 2,000 years.
Pharmacological
and clinical research
As a supplement for
cancer patients, Reishi can reduce side-effects
of cytotoxic cancer therapy or radiotherapy,
and reduce the pain.
It also has significant efficacy on anti-fatigue,
hair loss, and
bone marrow suppression.
When used as a supplement for cancer patients,
the recommended daily dose is 5-10 grams of Reishi
mushroom extract or equivalent.
Reishi
triterpenes are found to inhibit cholesterol
synthesis, reduce hypertension, protect the liver
and have antioxidant properties.
